How to Make a Text-Behind-Image Instagram Story — Step by Step

1

Upload Your Story Photo

Open the editor in Safari or Chrome and tap the upload area. Select a photo from your camera roll at 1080 × 1920 px — the standard Instagram Story size. You can also upload square or landscape photos; the editor works with any dimensions. The AI detects the subject automatically.

2

Add Your Text

Tap 'Add Text' and type the word, phrase, name, or quote you want behind the subject. Pick a font from 150+ options and set the size large enough to read at Story scale. Tap any preset — Minimal, Cinematic, Vintage — for a complete styled look in one tap.

3

Switch to Behind Mode

In the Overlay panel, tap Behind. Your text now sits behind the person or object in the photo. Drag it to position it — centering text behind the torso with the face above it is a popular Story composition. Apply a blend mode or Mirage effect for a softer, more aesthetic result.

4

Save and Upload to Instagram

Adjust the subject and background filters if needed — small brightness and contrast tweaks make a big difference. Tap Download. The image saves to your camera roll at full resolution with no watermark. Open Instagram and upload it directly as a Story.

What is TextBehindImg?

TextBehindImg lets you create Instagram Stories with the text-behind effect — where your text sits behind a person, product, or object in the photo. Upload a Story-sized photo (1080 × 1920 px), add your text, switch to Behind mode, and the AI places it behind your subject automatically. Free, no signup, no app download — works in Safari and Chrome on any device.
